Covet caprice

Can desire be
arbitrary?

I know someone
who desires.
Always seeking
an object, new.

In a world
of engineers,
"I desire!"
has no meaning.
Instant question:
"Desire what?",
sounding quite
demeaning.

For, desire
sans an object
leads to pain,
anxiety.

An object gives
a goal to reach.
The joy of which
is purity.

In a world
truer, though,
to desire,
in itself,
is a trait
that must exist
to feel real,
to be real.
For happiness
to persist.
